Coach Danyetta's Interview with Jodi Brandstetter at Influence Media Networks:
JB: Tell us about you and your expertise.
DN: I'm Danyetta Najoli and I'm a growth mindset and personal foundations coach. That means I help the people I work with get clear on their values so they can walk them out more consistently. I also help people understand their purpose so they can navigate every situation to achieve smarter goals. I also co-create and help people design a vivid picture of the future that pulls them forward and truly motivates them. I also help people identify and design supportive environments so they can more consistently surround themselves in life-giving spaces.
JB: Why did you decide to become an author and write a book? DN: I really wanted to be able to tell my story in my own voice. I also wanted a way to leave a family legacy 5 and 6 generations down for my children to pass down. I developed a writing discipline several years ago as a way to gather my thoughts, process information, and journal. I have written in so many journals, little bound books, and plain ole’ spiral notebooks! This gives me the practice to lay the framework for writing blog posts, articles, and ultimately books.
For me, it’s about my own personal journey of growth and development. I survived the trauma of growing up in a redlined segregated community in Harlem in the '70s. Although my family made the best of things and my communities were very supportive, there was still the need for me to go beyond my present circumstances. I wanted to write a book that showed people that it’s possible to move past your fears and onto developing your passion. I’m thankful that I have developed a growth mindset over the years.
JB: If you had to sum your book up in one to two sentences, what would it be?
DN: My chapter in Micro Shift is about how you can release the things that hold you back, that keep you from achieving your goals, how you can allow the space that naturally comes after you release, so you can experience that expanse. Then without anything to cloud or clutter that space, you can attract the right people, environments, and situations causing you to simply act.
JB: Who should read your book (your ideal reader)?
DN: People who are ready to release, allow, attract and act in a way that brings them closer to realizing their dreams, achieving their goals, and having the desired experiences that move them forward in their lives and relationships.
JB: What are 2 or 3 takeaways you want someone to get from your book?
DN: Your story matters. All of your unique experiences not only make you who you are today, but they are essential to stepping fully alive into your future.
I thread one of my core coaching practices, release, allow, attract, and act throughout my chapter. My readers can use this to self-coach and as a launching pad to engage me as their personal coach. Also, I would love to hear from my readers to know how this practice is helping them.
JB: What are some successes you have had since you became an author?
DN: Whenever I write, I’m able to crystallize my thoughts and that really helps me to get clearer about my sense of self in the world and how I want to show up in the world. I’ve also been able to write another book that will be released in April about going from Pain to Profit!
JB: Any advice for someone who wants to write a book?
DN: I have three tips for soon-to-be authors. The first tip is to just start. Start writing based on the things that interest you and the things you feel strongly about. If you don’t know what that is, ask those closest to you what do they think is important to you. Take a couple of weeks to simply observe what is important to you. What pulls at your heartstrings? What you are passionate about? What’s on your calendar? That can be a strong clue.
The second tip is to develop a writing discipline. Ask a coach to help you in key areas that you want to strengthen. Take a creative writing class. Read books in general but also read books on how to start a writing practice. Start writing when the opportunities arise. Write where you work, live, play, or pray.
And my third tip is to consider writing WITH others. When you team up, you can leverage the many, often arduous, elements it takes to get a book successfully published and marketed.
