Cultural humility is an emerging concept that is gaining traction in the workplace, communities, groups, and within families.  However, it is unclear to most people what cultural humility means and how it can be useful.  During these sessions, participants will understand what cultural humility is, what it is not, how it originated, and how it can benefit their important interactions.  Participants will also explore how cultural humility can be useful in their specific environment, when interacting within different people groups and within families.  We will show the research on how it has been successfully utilized and participants will have the opportunity to practice within a learning environment.

Person Centered Cultural Humility was coined by L. Danyetta Najoli in 2021 after working in the field many years and developing a course for a large government's Department of Health.  She also developed 10 Commitments of Person Centered Cultural Humility.  People and organizations use these commitments to have concrete ways of making a positive impact in their environments.  A comprehensive glossary of cultural humility terms has been created, providing learners with a convenient resource to understand and utilize relevant language, and to foster a supportive environment for diverse communities.  Lastly, a licensable set of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) Emotions were graphically designed to help vulnerable people see themselves in the maze of human emotions one can experience.

Finalized in March 2023, the Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Final Rule ensures individuals have full access to the benefits of community living and the opportunity to receive services in the most integrated setting appropriate. The Center for Medicaid Services (CMS) works with providers to develop a time-limited course of corrective action upholding specified basic rights and may, through time-limited corrective action plans, have additional time to fully comply with the remaining criteria impacted by the COVID-19 public health emergency.

Building Stronger Connections: Empowering Human Service Workers, Direct Care Workers, Frontline Supervisors, and Caregivers for Meaningful Relationships in Diverse Settings

New Group Coaching Program!

To truly provide person centered support in human services, mandatory training is just the beginning. Professionals, caregivers, and front-line supervisors must engage in self-reflection, recognize their own privilege, and acknowledge the inherent power dynamics in their relationships with the vulnerable people they serve and support.

Our trainers have over 24 years of experience successfully supporting vulnerable people including people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, people who are unhoused, people experiencing mental health crisis, and people in the middle of major transitions.  We will show you how to be more culturally fluent so that you can positively and respectfully navigate in conversations, within teams, and in communities with people who are different from you in unique ways.

Here's how our group coaching program works:

  • You will learn the tenants of Person Centered Cultural Humility within a supportive cohort that builds community as you gain competencies.

  • Our group coaching program lasts a total of 8 weeks

  • The program is delivered virtually with prerecordings to watch before the group coaching sessions.

  • The group coaching sessions will be recorded for participants to watch asynchronously to accommodate their schedules.

Person Centered Cultural Humility is a highly sought-after skill that has numerous benefits, especially when you are supporting another person, groups, or families in the workplace and community to foster long-lasting and meaningful relationships.  It will greatly improve the often complex and nuanced relationship between:

  • a leader and member

  • a provider and client/person receiving services or supports

  • a parent and child

  • a supervisor and subordinate

  • community members and a person viewed as culturally different

  • a clinician and patient

  • between colleagues or peers

Weekly Coaching Focus:

Cultural Clarity: Embrace Your Identity and Enhance Cross-Cultural Understanding

Self-Discovery Mastery: Uncover Personal Insights for Growth and Connection

Feedback Proficiency:   Harness Constructive Criticism for Professional Advancement

Power Dynamics Awareness: Navigate Roles and Relationships with Confidence

Partnership Proficiency: Forge Meaningful Connections for Lasting Community Impact

Applied Learning:  Implement Strategies for Real-World Success and Community Building

Coaching is not the same as training. During our group coaching sessions, you will notice the unhurried pace we will take to hear from participants and to encourage engagement.  This is unlike traditional training where large amounts of information is given leaving little time to process and reflect.  Participants will have ample time to understand the principles being introduced and will have time to reflect individually and with others in the group.
